• Rotary Gallery and Student Collection of Art Opens

The Derry Area Education Foundation received a grant from the Latrobe Rotary Club to help establish a place in the high school to showcase our new Student Collection of Art. With this generous support from our community, we were able to turn a small, unused alcove into a proper exhibition space that can begin to display our new collection. With fresh paint, a secure hanging system for the art and a low-energy, non-UV lighting system that will help protect the work, this represents a great beginning for future additions to the collection. Thank you to the Latrobe Rotary Club and its members for their support of this project!

    Derry Area School District's

The Derry Area Education Foundation recently received a generous gift from a patron in our area who believes strongly in the importance of the arts in our public schools. This donation is being given to begin a collection of professional art to be selected by our students and displayed in our schools for students to view on a daily basis. By bringing quality art to our hallways, selected by the students, it is hoped that these works will inspire life-long learners for years to come.

    Selection Process

A preliminary selection committee, made up of student representatives, has made an initial choice of five works of art for our school to consider purchasing with the grant money.  The five-member student committee consisted of the senior Class President, senior Student Council President, senior Interact President and two senior members of the Art Club. The group traveled to two local art exhibitions and viewed work on-line from a third location.
